In terms of Islamic Perspectives, Forensic Linguistics is one of the ways to uphold justice. As Muslims we are instructed to uphold justice and be true witnesses. Every Prophet (as) from Prophet Adam (as) until the last and seal of the Prophets, the Prophet Mohammad (saw) concerned themselves with implementation of justice upon the earth and it's natural consequence of peace;
'O those who believe, be upholders of justice- witnesses for Allah, even though against (the interest of) yourselves or the parents, and the kinsmen. One may be rich or poor, Allah is better caretaker of both. So do not follow desires, lest you should swerve. And if you twist or avoid (the evidence), then, Allah is all-aware of what you do.' (Al Quran 4:13)
We heard of Forensic Linguistics (F.L) before but the meaning or definition of it was never clear in our mind. However, through out this this project, we get to know not only the definition of F.L but also the brief history of it, the areas study, the forensic text types, the use and application, the methodology and few examples of big real cases involving Forensic Linguistics.
Technically, we found it very useful and interesting as we are in linguistics area of study, we related and reflected of what we have learnt and done in previous semesters. For example, we at the moment completing the task, we could see the rewards behind the tortures that we had been through in completing semester projects of Pragmatics and Semantics subjects. What we had been done in those projects were actually the methodologies used in some of Forensic Linguistics process in solving criminal cases. We are not calling ourselves as Forensic Linguists, but at least we understand and can see the pictures of how the investigation works.
In short, we gained a lot of information, experience and self-motivation in order to execute this task. Not only reflecting the knowledge to a classroom-wise (for examination) but it can be one of the equipments in facing the world as the torchbearers of the ummah.
